“The pharmaceutical industry has no interest in having you well, because they don’t make money if you’re well.” ~ “Genetic Roulette” documentary

Every person in this country should watch the documentary “Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives.” I stopped eating corn, canola oil, soybeans, wheat and sugar beets after watching it.

“Genetic Roulette” was written by Jeffrey Smith, executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology. A variety of scientists, agro-ecologists, professors, and researchers contributed to the film, including Don Lotter, Ph.D. agro-ecologist and plant biologist; Colin Campbell, Ph.D. professor emeritus in nutritional biochemistry at Cornell; Joel Bakan, law professor at the University of British Columbia; Shiv Chopra from Health Canada; Arpad Pusztai, Ph.D. and retired plant biochemist from Rowett Research Institute in Scotland; consumer advocate Ralph Nader; and former U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

  1. This stuff has been used in our national wildlife refuges until a halt was called by judges! Basically an open-air test field that will cross contaminate other crops and turn weeds and insects pesticide and herbicide resistant. This stuff hasn’t been studied long enough to ensure that it is safe for people, wildlife, and other plants. It doesn’t have the thousands of years of agricultural history human assisted hybridization does, and of course natural cross-pollination of plants (in the same species) since forever.

Plus, the FDA is trying to say that genetically altered plants are not ‘significantly different’ than their non-GMO counterparts to get around labeling requirements. If making changes to the DNA of an organism doesn’t make something ‘significantly different’, I don’t know what does! Who can override the FDA and the USF&W among others with such ease? Big company lobbyists. It’s terrible.

If you didn’t know better, you’d think humans deliberately want to destroy the environment. A man-made world is not desirable, I don’t think, and in fact creepy.

  2. Based on what Homo sapiens has been, and is doing to this planet, I sadly do believe we are deliberately destroying everything. This species seems obsessed with not only its own demise, but that of the entire planet: its a Death Wish, or what some call, a “self-fulfilling prophecy.” Our science fiction writings, films, and now, TV shows are mostly about the Apocalypse–many of these trashy TV series seem to be about “after the end of the world” with zombie-humans eating each other. Too bad, we humans can’t just go, but we are halting not only the evolutionary process, but biodiversity itself.
