A popular Spanish hunter took her life after receiving threats on social media from animal rights activists, according to reports.

Melania Capitan, 27, was found dead Wednesday from an apparent suicide at her apartment in Huesca, Spain, according to Crime Online, citing Spanish hunting magazine Jara y Sedal.

Capitan, from Catalonia, Spain, had amassed a huge fan base on social media posting images of herself hunting. Her Facebook page, where she shared hunting tips, had nearly 39,000 followers.

Some posts, however, were controversial for animal rights activists who would leave harassing messages, the Daily Mail reported. It is not known if her death was related to the cyberbullying.

The Daily Mail reported that the blond huntress left a suicide note for friends, but the contents of the letter have not been released.

Critics continued to flood her Facebook page with messages even after she died.

“She’s finished the lives of many animals and no one defended the death of them… I think our [lives are] worth the same as theirs,” one person wrote.

Others mourned her death, saying the loss was a “shame.”

“I do not like hunting, defending animals and killing for [hobby] seems horrible to me. But it’s a shame that this girl took her life,” another user wrote.

  1. Ah, here it is:

‘It is a lie that she committed suicide because of the threats, because she was a very brave woman, very strong, a fighter,’ her friend says.”

These papers ought to be sued for not having proof of their claims. Anyone can pile blame on ‘animal rights activisits’. It’s done all the time.

But I must say, if trophy hunters could all go by attrition I’d be happy.

  2. Speaking of lawsuits – apparently the trophy hunters ‘lied’ about the circumstances surrounding the killing of Xanda the lion, like that he was the father of cubs who now may be killed by another male lion, as well as removing a healthy male lion from the gene pool. Not surprising. And this guide is supposed to be one of the ‘good guys’! And imagine the ballsyness of dropping the collar off with a cya! Not much different than the wolf killers here in the US, so my money’s on an American who did it:

  3. Whatever her reasons, I hope more of them do the same. It may not be totally true that she did it because of statements of animal activists, but reading some of the comments of other female trophy hunters (animal serial killers), some of remarks do hurt their sensitive (sarcasm) souls. One famous killer, the one who had her picture taken lying next to a giraffe she had shot and killed, quoted a statement wishing her dead in a particularly gruesome way and whined about how cruel the statement was! That is why Facebook now hides their pictures from everyone except their own kind.

    • I can’t imagine someone who is able to kill another living thing being intimidated by online comments. I think there’s more to it in that she was a troubled individual.

As far as the other trophy killers, they just don’t get it that there are other sentient beings on the planet besides their greedy selves. Let them be banished to their own little dark corner of Facebook where they can’t spread violence and get the attention that they so desperately seek – that will be a penalty enough in their eyes, I am sure.

You reminded me of something – these guys that are abusing wildlife in Florida and dragged a shark behind their speedboat?

I had to laugh at the comments – one mentioned taking him out to the ‘glades in a airboat and leaving him for the alligators. The woman you mention obviously has no sense of humor! 🙂
