Pope Francis’ Concern For the Planet Deemed Offensive

Armory of the Revolution

by Marcia Mueller

In his encyclical on the environment, “Laudato Si,” Pope Francis acknowledged that human activities, especially those involving business and consumerism, hurt the planet and agreed that human activity is also playing a role in climate change. One of the most notable admissions in the encyclical is that the old interpretation of humanity’s place on the earth must be reexamined:  “Although it is true that we Christians have at times incorrectly interpreted the Scriptures, nowadays we must forcefully reject the notion that our being created in God’s image and given dominion over the earth justifies absolute domination over other creatures.”

In keeping with the encyclical, the Vatican hosted a light show, “Fiat Lux: Illuminating Our Common Home,” presented on the first day of what the Pope called a “Year of Mercy.” The show was produced and financed by a group of humanitarian and philanthropic groups and corporations, including the…

  1. I applaud the Pope ..he is an enlightened human. Jesus was enlightened as well.
What are these people so upset about about who disagreed with this film?
We are literally killing the earth with their domination theory. They seem to be living in a different time and space. Do they not know the relevance of other species and the ecosystem they rely on everyday for their own existence? I am truly mystified by this group. Humans cannot be myopic anymore we need to take responsibility for what we consume. All other species are not here for us to exploit or enslave for our desires, this is wanton and exploitive consumption. We must awaken our hearts and minds and put an end to the destruction of everyone’s home including our own.

    • Their brains have “blinders” on, courtesy of their literal interpretation of the book that has done the most damage to our planet, the bible. They see demons, environmental cults, and of course nothing is more important than a human fetus.
They will never be awake or aware of the interconnectedness of all life.
I just hope the pope continues on with this message in spite of these despicable creatures who choose to stay within the confines of their shrunken world view.
May they rot in the hell they so fervently believe in.

    • Exactly, the critics seem to belong to another century. They have been successfully indoctrinated into a narrow vision of human arrogance and entitlement. When they cannot/will not recognize overpopulation or the value of other creatures, then the planet can expect no help from them.

  2. I was surprised by the comments about the demonic and satanic gaze in the beautiful eyes of the animals. I never expect anything but an anthropocentric viewpoint from most conservatives, but “demonic” and “satanic” and “sacrilegious” sound like opinions from another century.

I also hope the Pope continues with a liberal message, but the backlash from the conservatives did not send an encouraging message.
