1092 WOLVES SLAUGHTERED IN WOLF HUNTS SINCE 8/30/2012
And it’s not over yet. Idaho’s wolf hunt continues.
How many wolves have to die?
When will the brutality end?
So many wolf families destroyed, untold suffering!
Will you speak for them?

Wolves are vilified by wolf haters, mostly by wolf-hater folklore. I guess they picked up at a local pub, certainly not by hard facts. Even the predation in normal ecological systems is grossly exaggerated by the wolf-haters. For instance in Yellowstone this is the Park’s report:
YNP Park Staff Data on Wolves 2011
Project staff detected 343 kills (definite, probable, and possible combined) made by wolves in 2011, including 267 elk (78%), 15 bison (4%), 18 deer (5%), 1 moose (<1%), 2 pronghorn (<1%), 2 bighorn sheep (<1%), 2 badgers (< 1%), 1 jackrabbit (<1%), 14 coyotes (4%), 1 raven (< 1%), 7 wolves (2%), and 13 unknown prey (4%). The composition of elk kills was 27% calves, 3% yearlings, 44% cows, 18% bulls, 3% adults of unknown sex, and 6% of unknown sex and age. Bison kills included 5 calves, 1 yearling, 2 cows, 6 bulls, and 1 adult of unknown sex.
Wolves are not decimating anything.
Man no longer needs to hunt for subsistence, now it is pure and simple, a blood sport, and ungulate farming for the blood sportsmen, which results in unnecessary management and predator slaughter. You want to see a lower form of predator, let man into a predator rich environment without his weapons and traps.
Lewis and Clark, Undaunted Courage, describe the Great Falls area as prey and predator rich, with predators not yet really afraid of man, including wolves that came in close without fear.
Thanks for that YNP data. Considering how many elk, bison and wolves in the park, it certainly doesn’t look like decimation BY the wolves. On the other hand, decimation OF wolves is out of control.
Visceral Folklore:
The hunting and trapping season on wolves and lions is more of a war than “sporting” season. The reasons are irrational, hysterical, visceral hard to understand. The hunters and trappers and wildlife agencies that support them will give arguments that are non-science, non-fact based reasons of controlling the wolf and other predators because they are decimating elk herds of which there is no proof, or they kill cattle which they do at a statistically zero rate (in MT .0029 %, 74 cattle in 2011 of 2,500,000). You can tell them the facts but it blows past their minds. They make up their own, just like the far right republican brains which makes me think that they have the same brains. Maybe it is just their strange reality. This country has a long tradition of killing wildlife to the edge of extinction and marginalizing the predators, of essentially elk farming or other game farming by killing off the predators and creating unbalanced ecosystems. You will also get this state rights argument regarding animals on national forests, national lands, and national parks. Talking to them is almost, maybe totally useless. Their arguments do no hold up, but they persist. They make up facts or resort to folklore. In trying to understand them, I am beginning to think in terms of primordial fear, irrational hate, and objectification of wildlife, failure to perceive predators and even prey as sentient beings. Also, they are just plain farming the wilderness for their self-centered reasons. It is political management.
The title under the picture of the AR-15 is clickable. It takes you to the AR15 forum. There are many more pictures there of this “wolf hunt”. Evey time I see that gun I still can’t believe it’s used for hunting. It’s disgusting and so wrong. It’s an assault rifle. Can you just see them standing there blasting away like Rambo? What horrible pain and suffering these poor animals have to endure. The wolf hunts must stop and I’m gong to work with everything I have to see that happens.
Same here.
Strange how they are accused of “decimating” or “wiping-out” deer and are animals that forest-killers (I refuse to call them “hunters) only want more to shoot, yet killing apex predators like wolves, bears, coyotes, and others is fine and okay? I going for the record to say “fuck forest-killers”!
Duly noted and recorded.
