  1. I voted, but only 27% seem to support the ban–wonder why? Could it be all those alleged “predator-friendly ranchers and hunters who oppose this?? By the way, some of us are concerned about the “predator-friendly beef” that will be served at the gathering near Yellowstone–what is up with that? I plan to send them a comment, and if this thing remains on the menu, those 3-4 of us planning to attend will not be going.

      • At least once a day….Montana Cattlemen’s Association, the Montana Woolgrowers, Montana Shooting Sports Association, Montana Furbearer Conservation Alliance and the Montana Outfitters & Guides members voting multiple times.

      • More support for ban than four years ago, this poll result so far is not making any sense to me. Montana Trappers Association Toby Walrath what is he doing dirty……err…….differently this time around?

    • While these “unscientific” polls help shed the important light on our citizen driven ballot initiative I-169…..to actually achieve trap free Montana public lands the true vote will occur in the Nov 2014 election providing we get the 25,000 required verifiable signatures of Montana registered voters. Then all Montanans can decide and only by casting the one official vote! Please lend your support by going to our website http://www.trapfreemt.org. We believe Montanans will find our ballot initiative fair and reasonable and given the opportunity to really make a difference, Montanans will vote in favor of trap free Montana public lands!

      • That’s terrible! Many in Montana, will not take their dog to recreate on our public lands. Some fear it is only a matter of time before a child is caught. Frequently, we hear of another pet that was trapped whether recently or years ago, it is a horrific and reportedly disturbing memory. 50,000 traps are reported set in Montana, secreted, hidden, baited and lured whose whereabouts are known only to the trapper. Licensed trappers, <1% of all Montanans, hold our public lands hostage from the other 99%. Setguns left with a trip wire to shoot are illegal as well as leaving a fishing pole unattended in Montana. Traps for bears have been banned because of the severity of damages…..yet trappers leave their weapons of mass destruction legally extending for miles, unchecked for days or even weeks, drawing any unsuspecting creature into their grips. Achieving trap free public lands for only 1/3 of Montana, with the allowable exceptions for trapping, is simply not too much to ask. However, we cannot do it alone! Please visit our website to learn more and help make this happen for people, pets, all animals, for Montana!

    • So sorry to hear about your pet. It is something unforgettable, no matter the outcome. Trapping certainly violates the principles of ethical hunting as well. Please see our collage of some of the known pets trapped in Montana on our facebook page Trap Free Montana Public Lands. These are one of the many reasons to support I-169 ballot initiative! http://www.trapfreemt.org

  2. Thanks for helping bring our much needed ballot initiative I-169 for Trap Free Montana Public Lands into the limelight. While we certainly appreciate the question, folks are correct, these “polls” are not generally accurate. Word is some vote, repeatedly. The fact is trappers are appearing nervous and support and conduct anything, including underhanded, deceitful acts, to try to discredit our fair and reasonable ballot initiative. In addition, another fact is our citizen driven ballot initiative needs roughly 25,000 verifiable Montana registered voters signatures by June 20, 2014 in order to get on the Nov 2014 ballot. If successful, rather than the power lying with the less than 1% of all Montanans that are licensed trappers, all Montanans can decide via official vote whether to achieve trap free Montana public lands. These are our lands which are only 1/3 of Montana. There are many reasons to support I-169, you only need one. Please visit our website at http://www.trapfreemt.org and to truly help, click on the link, if you are a Montana resident, to gather signatures. All can help by clicking “spread the word”, endorse, donate. Thank you and know this is achievable…..if all simply pitch in to get it done for the 45,000 animals reported trapped indiscriminately each year, unknown “incidental” catches, and the FWP reportedly as not uncommon 50 dogs trapped as well annually in Montana. Time to honor and respect wildlife and our safe recreation on our public lands. Thank you!
